Our America with MasterVoices

American music is immigrant music—a glorious merging of voices and traditions that has fueled the invention of whole new musical genres. Our America, conceived by Artistic Director Ted Sperling, puts MasterVoices’ diverse chorus in service of the wide range of stories and sounds that have come to dine American music, with a combination of newly commissioned work, American premieres, and new arrangements of classics. The concert marks MasterVoices’ debut at the historic Great Hall at The Cooper Union— birthplace of the NAACP, the women’s suffrage movement, nd ome of the earliest workers’ rights campaign, as well as the site of speeches by Abraham Lincoln and Emma Goldman.

Works include newly-commissioned works by Randall Eng and Daniel Rein, as well as works by Woody Guthrie, Kurt Weill, George Gershwin, Victor Herbert, Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, traditional Spirituals and folk songs, and more. Mikaela Bennett, soprano, Justin Austin, baritone, and David Lutken, folksinger, are the soloists.

March 7th at the Cooper Union Great Hall. 7 pm.
